Currently 52 U.S. Senators have co-sponsored the landmark tax reform bill called the Craft Beverage Modernization and Tax Reform Act of 2017 (S.236). Just a few weeks ago a Republican from Ohio and Democrat from California signed on to support the bill to give it a majority. The bipartisan bill was introduced in January of this year by Senator Ron Wyden (D-OR).
The Craft Beverage Modernization and Tax Reform Act seeks to lower the tax burden for all domestic wineries, breweries and distilleries. It is the first proposed bill that would reform the federal excise tax system for all three major alcohol sectors. A companion bill has also been introduced by Representative Erik Paulsen (R-MN-3) in the House and currently has 281 co-sponsors. The bill now has a clear majority in both the Senate and the House.
