In Oregon, seven craft breweries will start selling beer using reusable glass bottles next month in the country’s first statewide refillable beer bottle program. The seven initial breweries pioneered the program using their product lines, additional breweries are expected to join the state program in coming months. The program was developed and run by the Oregon Beverage Recycling Cooperative, the industry group in charge of collecting and recycling beverage containers for Oregon’s bottle deposit system.
The reusable glass bottles look slightly different than a traditional beer bottle. They are designed to be more durable and have markings on them to indicate that they can be washed and reused up to 40 times instead of being destroyed or recycled after a single use.
