Canned wines are no longer just a fad, they have accounted for $70 million in retail sales in the U.S for the year ending in March, and have increased $42 million from the previous year, according to Nielsen data. While canned wine is just a small category of the industry, it is growing rapidly thanks to millennial drinkers. Cans are portable and lightweight, unlike glass bottles, which make carrying wine around much easier. Canned wines are ideal for pools, beaches, rock concerts, and hiking trips as glass is not appropriate at these locations. In addition to its convenient packaging, canned wines have proved to be an environmentally friendly alternative as they are easier to recycle, lighter to ship, and require fewer packing materials.
