Red blend wines are trending with both consumers and the U.S. wine industry. American consumers have been trending towards wines that pair better with rich foods they enjoy, and wines with recognizable names and labels that minimize the intimidation factor of having so many choices today. The industry’s advances in the supply chain in recent years have also contributed to the increase in the possible blends and quality of red blends available today.
While many wines have traditionally been blended, until recently they weren’t widely promoted as blends on the label. The modern trend in red blends began a decade ago with two primary wines: Menage a Trois by Trinchero Family Estates and Apothic by E. & J. Gallo. Both wines and blends in general show no sign of slowing down in popularity anytime soon.
