The number of consumers ordering alcohol with takeout or delivery increased from 9% to 14% in the weeks ending in April 18 and April 25, according to a Nielsen CGA report covering New York, California, Illinois, and Florida. The report saw on-premise sales velocity declines go from -75% at the start of April to -68% the week of April 25, suggesting that the trade is adapting to market conditions.
22% of US consumers surveyed said they were planning to return to restaurants and bars as soon as they reopen, while 28% will wait to see if restaurants demonstrate social distancing and 23% once the number of COVID-19 cases doesn’t increase. While 61% of consumers had to rearrange or cancel special occasion celebrations due to the virus, 22% plan to celebrate the missed events at bars and restaurants once they reopen.
