Mead is one of the oldest alcoholic beverages coined as “the drink of the Gods.” It is fermented with honey and it is consumed similarly to wine. There are several styles of mead such as show mead, sparkling mead, and melomel.
The American Mead Makers Association found that 67 percent meaderies surveyed have been open for the last five years, and 6 percent have been open longer than ten years.
In 2003 the US had 30 mead producers, and now there are 300 producers.
