Heidelberg Distributing History & Company Info
The story of Heidelberg Distributing began in 1938, when Albert Vontz, a German immigrant came to work for the Heidelberg Brewery in Covington, Kentucky as a delivery man. The brewery had to close its production, but Albert saw an opportunity to buy the distributing portion of the business, keeping the Heidelberg name and growing the business.
After the end of the Second World War, his son, Albert Junior came to join the business and with his fresh ideas and enthusiasm, they expanded their services. The company bought smaller wine and beer distributors, growing and expanding the areas of service, and by 1976, they sold their millionth case of Anheuser-Busch beer in Dayton. In 1985, they sold the millionth case of Budweiser in Dayton.
Later, they expanded into other markets, namely Toledo, then central Ohio, and Columbus. In the 2000s, the company spread to other parts of Ohio and Kentucky, and today they have celebrated several important milestones and are enjoying quite the status for a successful family-owned and operated wine, beer, and spirits distributing company.
