This week, four states adopted recreational marijuana use via ballot measures: Arizona, Montana, New Jersey, and South Dakota. That brings the total up to 15 states with legalized recreational marijuana laws and 36 states with medical marijuana laws.
“With the passage of these initiatives, one-third of the population now lives in jurisdictions that have legalized cannabis for adult use, and 70% of all states have embraced cannabis for medical use,” says Steve Hawkins, the executive director of the Marijuana Policy Project.
