Breakthru Beverage looks to expand its reach in Colorado by acquiring C.R. Goodman, a craft beer wholesaler. Ken Goodman, owner of C.R. Goodman, noted the changing landscape in Colorado and said, “We felt the timing was right to make this change for our suppliers, customers and employees.” Some of the craft beer brands they handled included Left Hand Brewing and Odd 13 Brewing. Clearly, there is a trend toward consolidation of craft distributors and producers in Colorado. American Eagle Distributing and Breckenridge Brewery, one of the larger craft beer producers in Colorado, were purchased by AB InBev in 2015. Breakthru Beverage was the result of a consolidation as well—when the Charmer Sunbelt Group and Wirtz Beverage merged. Danny Wirtz, Breakthru’s vice chairmain, said “Expanding craft brewer relationships across the Breakthru footprint, while continuing to deliver superior results for our spirit and wine suppliers is vital to our strategy of offering greater value to our on premise and retail partners.” Source: Tamara Chuang, denverpost.com; Chris Furnari, brewbound.com
