Some of New York City’s bars and restaurants are offering drinks in reduced sizes and working smaller cocktails into the mix on menus. A number of on-premise locations are now promoting new “mini” martinis as the next hot ticket in the cocktail scene. The “mini” martini is roughly half the size of a typical martini of 3.5 to 5 ounces.
Bar operators say that the trend is being pushed by today’s consumers often wanting a drink in moderation, particularly on weeknights. The upside for establishments is that the smaller drink sizes allow for better margins per cocktail and work great for well established specials like happy hour and other promotions.
